Does Osteopathy hurt?

Some soft tissue treatment may cause discomfort during treatment.

You may feel a little stiff or sore after treatment for approximately 24hours. This is a normal, healthy response to the treatment. 

Emily will give you advice on things you can do after treatment if this is the case.

Is Osteopathy safe & how do I know my Osteopath is qualified?

To qualify as an osteopath there is a minimum of 4-5 years training at undergraduate level. This is similar to a medical degree, with more emphasis on anatomy and musculoskeletal medicine. By law, osteopaths must register with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and it is an offence for anyone to call themselves an osteopath if they are not registered. 

Do I need to see my GP first?

No. You do not need to see your doctor first if you are paying for your own treatment. It is advisable to contact your insurance company as some may require you to see your doctor first.

Can I claim on my medical insurance?

Please check with your insurance company prior to your consultation. There are some exceptions with some companies so please inform us of your cover on booking. We are covered under SimplyHealth, PruHealth, WPA, Cigna & Aviva. We regret that patients under BUPA or AXA/PPP are not able to claim treatment with us at this current time. 

How long will my appointment take?

Your first consultation is approximately 1hour (includes treatment).

Follow-up appointments are approximately 30-45 minutes. 

Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of your appointment.

What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?

It its requested that a minimum of 24hours notice is given prior to cancelling or changing your appointment. Failure to do so will result in the full consultation fee being charged. Please call Emily for any alterations.

Do you do home visits?

Home visits are only available to exsisting patients of the practice that have mobility problems and can not attend their regular clinic appointments. We do not provide home visits for new patients of the practice.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on what your complaint or problem. You will be advised at your first consultation. In general, early intervention or treatment is vital in acute complaints however chronic or long-standing complaints may take more time to resolve. The aim is to keep your appointments to a minimum. 

Will I need regular check-ups?

This also depends on your complaint or problem. Some patients only require a few treatments to resolve their problem however others may require regular maintainence treatment. This is something that will be discussed with you at the time of your appointment.
